Craps has a reputation for being the most confusing casino game to learn, but the drinking-game version strips it down to the one thing that actually matters at a table: the shooter’s roll. You need real dice for this one, at least two, ideally a matching pair.
What You Need
- 2 six-sided dice
- 4 to 8 players
- Beer of choice for everyone
The Basic Shape of a Round
One player is the shooter for the round. The first roll is the “come out roll.” Real craps has a full betting structure, this version simplifies it down to come-out results and a “point” phase so the game stays fast and does not require a rulebook at the table.
The Drinking Rules
- Come-out roll is 7 or 11 (a “natural”): Everyone except the shooter drinks once, shooter keeps rolling
- Come-out roll is 2, 3, or 12 (“craps”): Shooter drinks twice, then passes the dice to the next player
- Come-out roll is any other number (4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10), that becomes “the point”: Everyone drinks once, then the shooter keeps rolling until they hit the point again (shooter drinks nothing, table cheers) or rolls a 7 first (shooter drinks three and passes the dice)
- Any roll of doubles, at any point in a turn: Whoever is to the shooter’s left takes a drink, regardless of what phase the round is in
Passing the Dice
The dice move to the next player clockwise any time the shooter rolls a 7 during the point phase. This naturally rotates who is “in the hot seat” without needing a separate rule for it.
What Beer Works Here
A long point phase can mean a shooter goes 10+ rolls without hitting a 7 or the point, which means the table is drinking once per roll that whole stretch. Keep it to session-strength beer, 4 to 4.5% ABV, or this game ends a lot sooner than anyone planned.
