My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
12.5 points overall
-
Amber Lager (bottled)
Style 13 - German Dark Lager
- 15 points - Beer #18-1440, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 5, 1996
Amber, moderate carbonation, short-lived head. Malty aroma, more so than Integrale (18-1439). Much bigger beer than the Integrale. More body, more malt flavor, more bitter, better balance.
-
Bock
Style 12 - Bock
- 15 points - Beer #4-212, Dublin Pub, Beaverton OR, July 28, 1993
Yellow and thick head. Expected darker. Yeasty aroma. Real Chewy. Real Nice balance.
-
Dark Lager (bottled)
Style 13 - German Dark Lager
- 15 points - Beer #18-1429, Kamuela HI, at home, May 2, 1996
Red-brown, low carbonation, good head. Malty-brown aroma, but subtle. Good roasty flavor, even a little smoky. Sweet, but pretty well-balanced. Thanks to for sending this beer to me.
-
Hefeweizen (bottled)
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 11.5 points - Beer #20-1559, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, August 31, 1996
Golden, very slight haze, OK head and carbonation. Yeasty-rubbery aroma. Good body, lots of hop flavor. Some bitterness in finish on top of the wheat flavor. American so-called "Hefeweizens" just don't cut it.
-
Helles Blueberry Lager (bottled)
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 13.5 points - Beer #18-1442, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 5, 1996
Amber, moderate carbonation, excessive head. Hint of malt aroma. Not a bad malty beer. Can't actually taste any fruit.
-
Integrale Amber (bottled)
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 14 points - Beer #18-1439, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 5, 1996
Amber, fairly high carbonation, not much head. Good malt/hop mix in aroma. Malty, good body. Carbonation a little high. OK bitterness in finish.
-
Integrale Amber
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 12 points - Beer #14-986, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, May 19, 1995
Amber clear, low carbonation, good white head. Biscuity aroma. Good body. Loads of biscuit malt. Other flavors in good balance.
-
Oktoberfest
Style 17 - Vienna / Märzen / Oktoberfest
- 13.5 points - Beer #25-2044, 1997 Kona Brewers Festival, Kailua-Kona HI, March 15, 1997
Brown-amber, clearish, big head. Grainy aroma, some hops. Malty, smooth. Finishes pretty clean.
-
Oktoberfest (bottled)
Style 17 - Vienna / Märzen / Oktoberfest
- 11.5 points - Beer #22-1880, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, October 9, 1996
Brown-red, good head. Brown aroma, some hops. Lots of hop flavor, some metallic bitterness which lasts way too long. Like chewing on a penny.
-
Pale Lager (bottled)
Style 14 - German Light Lager
- 11.5 points - Beer #18-1438, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 5, 1996
Amber-yellow, moderate carbonation and head, bits of floating yeast. Citrusy nose...like 7-Up! Fizzy, citrusy flavor. Some malt in finish. Possibly stale...there's a date encoded on the label, but I can't read it.
-
Weizen Berry (bottled)
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 15 points - Beer #18-1441, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 5, 1996
Yellow, fizzy, good head. Big raspberry nose. Raspberry start, some malt in finish...unusual for a fruit beer.
-
Weizen Berry
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 12 points - Beer #14-990, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, May 30, 1996
Pale, some haze, low head. Hi-C raspberry aroma. Fruity, but finishes with a malty-wheaty character. I'M REALLY SICK OF FRUIT BEER.
-
White (bottled)
Style 2 - Belgian / French Ale
- 6 points - Beer #19-1485, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, May 22, 1996
Yellow, high carbonation, short head. Assertive orange peel aroma. Big carbonation bite. Big soapy flavor. Tastes like taking a bite out of a bar of Lifebuoy. "Thomas Kemper salutes Belgian brewer Pierre Celis who resurrected the style in the 1960's." Tastes like a one-finger salute.
