When I visited this place in October 1997, they told me the name would change from Hubcap to Schooner on December 1, but nothing else would change. Good beer!
My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
15.5 points overall
-
Downtown Brown
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 14 points - Beer #28-2294, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Red, flat, low head. Berry fruitiness in the aroma. Light body, roasty, fairly sweet. Drying roasty finish.
-
Dunkelweizen
Style 19 - German-style Wheat Beer
- 13 points - Beer #28-2295, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Red-brown, opaque, thick head. Some clove aroma. Medium body, slightly spicy, finishes pretty quick. Not a lot of carbonation, not a very clean finish.
-
Oktoberfest
Style 17 - Vienna / Märzen / Oktoberfest
- 15.5 points - Beer #28-2293, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Red-brown, nice head, moderate carbonation. Sweet aroma, like honey. Nice and thick, sweet, malty, pretty good balance. Dark sweet finish is just a little sticky. Voted "Best Beer in Dallas". Bronze Medal, 1994 GABF.
-
Pegasus Pilsner
Style 15 - Classic Pilsener
- 16 points - Beer #28-2292, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Yellow, low carbonation, thick head. Smells, spicy, fruity, a little smoky. Smooth, pretty bitter, pretty dry. A little sweeter, and it would be perfectly balanced. Lots of grainy maltiness late.
-
Rainbow Trout Stout
Style 11 - Stout
- 16 points - Beer #28-2297, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Black, nice head. Sweet coffee aroma. Thick, roasty, just sweet enough, fairly bitter. Good beer. Silver Medal, 1992 GABF.
-
Ranger Red
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 14.5 points - Beer #28-2291, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Red, flat, thick head. Spicy, fruity aroma. Smooth, sweet, a little bitter in the middle, a little roasty late.
-
Vail Pale Ale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 20 points - Beer #28-2296, at the brewery, October 12, 1997
Pale brown, moderate carbonation, nice head. Big citrusy nose. Good body, big spicy bitter bite, real nice balance, long spicy finish. It's a spicy SNPA.
