My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
16.5 points overall
-
Bachelor Bitter (bottled)
Style 7 - English Bitter
- 16 points - Beer #24-1997, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, January 11, 1997
Amber, very fine carbonation, big head. Fruity-spicy hop aroma. Good body...initial maltiness gets washed away by a wave of hop flavor.
-
Black Butte Porter (bottled)
Style 9 - Porter
- 17.5 points - Beer #24-2006, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, January 18, 1997
Dark red, almost black, fairly high carbonation, OK brown head. Chocolate, hop aromas. Nice smooth body, big black malt and chocolate flavors. Sweet, but bitter enough to give a great balance. Carbonation is a bit high. Excellent Porter.
- 19 points - Beer #21-1802, Great American Beer Festival XV, Denver CO, September 28, 1996
Dark brown-red. Chocolate aroma, hint of coffee. Great mix of black malt, bitterness, coffee flavors. A bit astringent. Gold Medal, 1996 GABF.
-
Cascade Golden Ale (bottled)
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 12.5 points - Beer #24-2003, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, January 16, 1997
Golden, some haze, OK head. Spearmint aroma, like gum. Malty flavor and good body, but with a weird sharp bitterness riding on top. Not very well-balanced.
-
Jubelale
Style 22 - Herb / Spice Beer
- 15 points - Beer #29-2388, Ryan's, Honolulu HI, February 12, 1998
Deep dark red, not quite clear. Chocolate, ginger, nutmeg aromas. Fairly thick, big sweet chocolate flavor, some hints of spice late.
-
Mirrorpond Pale Ale (bottled)
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 17 points - Beer #25-2067, Kamuela HI, at home, May 10, 1997
Amber, clear, low carbonation, big head. Nutty aroma, like wheat bread. Full body, very well-balanced. Good Cascade flavor in the middle, big and malty fore and aft. Long malty finish. Formerly an IPA?
-
Obsidian Stout (bottled)
Style 11 - Stout
- 18 points - Beer #24-2007, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, January 18, 1997
Perfectly black, big brown head. Chocolate aroma. Smooth, black, fairly sweet, with a long black malt finish. Pretty tasty. 6.74% abv.
