My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
15.5 points overall
5 Malt Ale
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 15 points - Beer #33-2719, Siebel Institute, Chicago IL, April 9, 1998
Red-brown, thick head. Spicy brown aroma. Medium body, a little bitter, not as roasty as Two Brothers. Quick sweet finish.
- 14.5 points - Beer #20-1632, Great American Beer Festival XV, Denver CO, September 26, 1996
Amber, good head. Malty aroma. Pretty chewy, lots of malt flavor, reasonably well-balanced.
Black Honey Ale (bottled)
Style 23 - Specialty Beer
- 19 points - Beer #34-2987, 1st Wines and Spirits, Allouez WI, July 22, 1998
"Brewed with African black honey." Black, dense head. Roasty aroma. Medium body, roasty, sweet, with a molasses character that probably comes from the honey. Makes me pine for the old Devil's Brew!
Devil's Brew (bottled)
Style 9 - Porter
- 13 points - Beer #18-1392, Kamuela Liquor Store, Kamuela HI, April 25, 1996
Dark red clear, low head. Black malt aroma. Fairly roasty, but also fairly sweet. Good hop flavor in background. It's sure not the old draught version, though.
