Pretty good beers and decent Cajun food. Live music...fun place. They even had "Hockey Week" on TV! No rail on the bar, though.
Directions: From Highway 99, take 24th Street east, and go left on Chester...Bootleggers is in "The Historic Ice House" about a mile along on the left. Watch out for the traffic circle!
My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
13.5 points overall
-
34th Street Porter
Style 9 - Porter
- 15.5 points - Beer #30-2433, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Red, almost black, OK head. Very small aroma, hint of roast malt. Big sweet roasty flavor. Odd minty hop note in the middle. Mild roasty finish.
- 15.5 points - Beer #12-927, at the brewery, May 5, 1995
Dark brown, clear. Minimal head. Slightly burnt aroma. Sweet, burnt flavors. Very toasty.
-
Big Red
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 14 points - Beer #12-925, at the brewery, May 5, 1995
Shade darker than Snakebite Ale. Moderate carbonation, very small head. Slightly sweet aroma. Brown ale flavors and sweetness. Somewhat astringent, especially in finish.
-
Bourbon Street Stout
Style 11 - Stout
- 15 points - Beer #30-2432, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Black, thin head. Pretty clean aroma. Good body, not as roasty as the Porter. Fairly sweet finish, a little astringent.
-
Double ZZ Raspberry Wheat
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 13 points - Beer #30-2429, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Yellow hazy, low head. Hi-C aroma and flavor.
-
Fiesta Ale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 11.5 points - Beer #12-924, at the brewery, May 5, 1995
Served with a lime slice. Yellow, not much carbonation at all, and no head. Smells of lime. Tastes of lime. Sweet. I'd like to taste it without the lime...bet it's tasty.
-
Irish Red
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 14 points - Beer #30-2431, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Red-brown translucent, low head. Hint of grapefruit aroma. Good hop flavor, good body, a little drying.
-
Snakebite Ale
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 12.5 points - Beer #12-923, at the brewery, May 5, 1995
Amber, very low carbonation, no head. Hint of haze. Slight fruitiness. Caramel flavor and a bit of toast. Sweet, but finishes OK.
-
Summer Wheat
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 11 points - Beer #30-2430, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Yellow opaque. No head. No aroma. No body. Not much flavor, quite a bit of fizz. Served with lemon, which in this case actually enhances the character.
-
Voluptuous Blonde
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 14.5 points - Beer #30-2428, at the brewery, March 1, 1998
Golden, low carbonation, no head. Pretty clean aroma, a little sweet. Good body, real nice malt flavor. Some sweet fruit in the middle, clean finish.
- 13.5 points - Beer #12-926, at the brewery, May 5, 1995
Golden, medium carbonation. No head. Slight noble hop character in aroma and mouthfeel. Sweet in the middle, quick bitterness in finish.
