My one visit to Ale House Rock wasn't particularly enjoyable...the waitress didn't have a clue about which beer was which, the music was WAY too loud, and the service was generally slow, inept, and inattentive. Maybe you'll have better luck, especially since new owners have taken over.
Directions: Pacific Coast Highway to Beach, turn east. Right on Adams. Ale House Rock is on the right, just past the Mobil station.
My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
13.0 points overall
Brewzer's Red Ale
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 12.5 points - Beer #17-1306, at the brewery, February 14, 1996
Red, OK carbonation and head. Clean aroma, hint of sweetness. Sweetish, hint of caramel, especially in finish. Not as boring as O.C. Honey Wheat (17-1305).
Style 9 - Porter
- 13.5 points - Beer #17-1307, at the brewery, February 14, 1996
Dark brown red, good head. Some black malt aroma. Thick enough...flavors are all there, but very subdued. Not nearly a big enough beer.
O.C. Honey Wheat
Style 23 - Specialty Beer
- 12 points - Beer #17-1305, at the brewery, February 14, 1996
Golden-amber, OK head and carbonation. Pretty clean aroma. Wheaty, but very very clean, with almost no finish at all. Definitely no honey character.
Pier Shooter Pale Ale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 14 points - Beer #17-1304, at the brewery, February 14, 1996
Golden, good carbonation, low head. Faintly sweet aroma. Nice malty flavor, a bit sweet but not out of line. OK slightly vegetal hop finish.
