My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
12.0 points overall
-
1994 Yule Tied
Style 22 - Herb / Spice Beer
- 15 points - Beer #9-655, Pacific Coast Brewing, Oakland CA, December 18, 1994
Amber. Big white head. Spices in aroma. Spices in flavor. Earthy. Smooth/creamy. Some slight astringency. OK, but not real interesting.
-
Cascade Amber
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 13 points - Beer #11-792, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, February 28, 1995
Amber clear. VERY high carbonation. Good head. Malty nose. Tied House house flavor. Sweet, pretty clean. Not much character. Very high carbonation.
-
ESB
Style 7 - English Bitter
- 14 points - Beer #11-832, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, March 28, 1995
Red-amber, very flat, good head. Caramel, Cascade aroma. Caramel flavor. Pretty clean, but some diacetyl. Sweet finish.
-
Maibock
Style 12 - Bock
- 13 points - Beer #14-1005, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, May 26, 1995
Golden, clear, good carbonation and head. Sweet aroma...bitter hops catch in back of throat. Tastes much like it smells. Sweet, with "sticky" bitterness near the end. Tied House house flavor? Not really.
-
Octoberfest
Style 17 - Vienna / Märzen / Oktoberfest
- 11 points - Beer #16-1218, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, October 1, 1995
Amber, very high carbonation, good head. A little smoky? Big-bodied yet insipid Tied House beer. No finish at all.
-
Pale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 11.5 points - Beer #1-36, at the brewery, March 20, 1993
Very yellow. Not at all amber like many Pale Ales. Pretty good head. Very faint hop aroma, not assertive at all. Hard to tell because this place smells like a toilet. Not enough malt body to carry the hops. I'd add quite a bit of very light crystal. I've had better beers. Tied House doesn't seem to be slipping anymore...they've stabilized near the bottom.
-
Wheat
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 7.5 points - Beer #15-1127, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, August 11, 1995
Yellow opaque, no head. Stale aroma. Bready. Extremely uninteresting. Yeasty. Tied House Swill. (Remember when we used to live on "Tied Pints" of Wheat Beer?)
