My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
13.5 points overall
-
Aftershock Bock
Style 12 - Bock
- 14.5 points - Beer #12-855, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, April 7, 1995
Red, clear, low carbonation. Good-but-short-lived head. A touch perfumey, some subtle malts. Malty flavor...a little smoky, even. Great flavors in finish. Pretty well-balanced.
-
Apricot Ale
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 13.5 points - Beer #15-1115, at the brewery, July 29, 1995
Golden, good carbonation and head. Apricot aroma. Apricot beer.
-
Atlantis Red
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 13.5 points - Beer #15-1162, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, September 6, 1995
Amber, low carbonation, good head. Caramel malt aroma, some spicy hops. Bitter, hoppy flavor and finish. Needs more malt, more body.
-
Cherry Ale
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 11.5 points - Beer #14-1002, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, May 26, 1995
Red-amber, hazy. Good carbonation, pink head. Malty aroma, with some fruit. Way too much Tettnang flavor. Cherries are definitely an afterthought...faint in finish.
- 13.5 points - Beer #2-118, Lyon's Brewery, Dublin CA, September 3, 1993
Red. (Imagine that.) Cherry aroma. (Imagine that!) A little sour, like cherry-pie cherries. Fairly astringent. A fleeting impression of cough syrup, but of course not as viscous. Actual cherry flavor fades quickly, astringency lasts too long.
-
Cranberry Noel
Style 21 - Fruit / Vegetable Beer
- 11 points - Beer #9-659, Pacific Coast Brewing, Oakland CA, December 18, 1994
PINK?!? Cranberry aroma. Hi-C flavor, with some malt thrown in.
-
Earthquake Pale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 16 points - Beer #12-894, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Pale, moderate carbonation. Spicy Chinook nose. Thick, for a "light" beer. Chinook flavor dominates...tasty. Tettnangs are a nice touch, not overdone.
-
Earthquake Porter
Style 9 - Porter
- 14 points - Beer #12-898, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Pretty black, good head. Coffee aroma, some hops behind. Tastes just like a cold cup of espresso!
-
Golden Mermaid
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 12.5 points - Beer #15-1173, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, September 8, 1995
Golden-amber, OK head and carbonation. Smells like graham crackers. Tastes like wet graham crackers, with bitter hoppy undertones.
-
Kit Fox Amber
Style 4 - Mild / Brown Ale
- 13.5 points - Beer #12-896, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Amber, low carbonation. Low head. Some caramel aroma, a little sharp. Pleasant, clean. Good caramel balance and finish.
- 15 points - Beer #11-787, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, February 23, 1995
Red-amber, very thin head. Some caramel aroma. Good caramel flavor, but subdued. Good body. Surprisingly (relatively) clean finish.
- 13 points - Beer #1-103, Lyon's Brewery, Dublin CA, June 27, 1993
Certainly amber. A little hazy, but not enough to notice. (So why'd you bring it up?) (Shut up.) First beer with a prominent malt aroma that I've had all night. Aw jeez...get my hopes up with a great look and a nice aroma, and then give me a sour fruity beer. Doesn't really even deserve 13 points.
-
Seismic Ale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 15.5 points - Beer #15-1116, at the brewery, July 29, 1995
Golden-amber, good carbonation and head. Some caramel and hops in nose. Thick, smooth. Great balance, malty.
- 15.5 points - Beer #12-895, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Golden-amber. Good carbonation, head dropped quickly. Malty nose. Munich malt comes through well in start and finish...hops in middle.
-
Survivor Stout
Style 11 - Stout
- 13.5 points - Beer #15-1078, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, July 3, 1995
Black, thin head. Nitro tap. Very nice coffee aroma. Coffee flavor, thin. Cold coffee finish.
-
Wheat Ale
Style 6 - American-style Pale Ale
- 10.5 points - Beer #12-897, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Yellow. Low carbonation. Hmmm...did the Woodruff used to be on this line? Spice aroma comes through in flavor too. Not pleasant, not expected.
-
Woodruff Ale
Style 22 - Herb / Spice Beer
- 15 points - Beer #12-899, at the brewery, April 28, 1995
Amber, nearly flat. Nutmeggy-ish aroma. Thick, herbal-spicy. Not at all offensive...but not a session beer either.
- 15 points - Beer #11-797, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, March 13, 1995
Yellow-amber, medium carbonation. Woodruff aroma dominant, but not overpowering. Interesting...medium body, cinnamon/nutmeg/ginger...pumpkin pie flavor. Good, but not habit-forming. Dessert beer.
