My Opinion Of The Beers That I've Tried:
10.0 points overall
-
Dark Lager
Style 13 - German Dark Lager
- 11 points - Beer #10-695, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, January 7, 1995
Dark brown-red transparent. Good brown head. Oily aroma. Some floral hops. Tastes like tar. Way too much black malt...nowhere near enough residual sugar to bring it into balance. Eleven points is very generous.
- 7.5 points - Beer #1-82, St.Mary's College Beer Festival, Moraga CA, June 13, 1993
Brown. Very big bubbles in head. Sour aroma. Just a hint of dark malt. The flavor of the dark malt helps to cover the sour taste, but not much. POURED IT OUT. They really have an infection problem.
-
Golden Lager
Style 14 - German Light Lager
- 11 points - Beer #11-735, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, January 27, 1995
Yellow, some chill haze. Perfumey aroma and flavor. Malty, some sourness and sickly sweet. Not as bad as before...but still bad.
- 8.5 points - Beer #1-81, St.Mary's College Beer Festival, Moraga CA, June 13, 1993
Yellow, a little hazy. Big bubbles in head. Very sour aroma. Thin. Very sour...like lemon's already in it. Nasty like I remember it from last year's festival at Folsom CA. POURED IT OUT.
-
Stout Lager
Style 13 - German Dark Lager
- 13 points - Beer #11-784, The HopYard, Pleasanton CA, February 21, 1995
Black. Big brown head drops quickly. Some aromatic black malt, some vague maltiness. Stout flavor, but not real big. Astringent finish. Sour note in middle. Best score ever for a Nevada City beer.
