Aguila Beer Review: Colombia’s Number One Beer Since 1913

3.6/5
Aguila is a light, crisp pilsner built for hot weather and easy drinking. It has been Colombia’s most popular beer for over a century and is a genuinely refreshing choice when you want something simple done well.

Aguila has been brewed continuously since 1913, originally by Cerveceria Bavaria in Barranquilla, and today it is Colombia’s best-selling and most widely consumed beer, now distributed in the US through Molson Coors. The eagle on the label gives the beer its name, Spanish for eagle, and its branding leans hard into Colombian pride, showing up everywhere from beach bars in Cartagena to football matches across the country.

How It Tastes

Aguila pours a very pale straw gold with a thin, quickly fading head. At just 4.0% ABV it is on the lighter end of the pilsner scale, and the flavor matches that: mild grain, a touch of corn sweetness, and almost no hop bitterness. It is not a beer built for flavor complexity, it is built to be ice cold and disappear fast on a hot day, which is exactly the role it plays across Colombia. Served warm it falls apart quickly, so this is a beer that rewards drinking straight from the fridge or over ice.

Aguila is not trying to impress you, it is trying to survive a Caribbean afternoon, and it does that job well.
